People have committed themselves (committed... good word!) to running a dressage show or two in the 2011 show season. Needless to say, they will be asking for help from members. So whatever time you can give will be appreciated. Come down to Happy Go Lucky Farms on one of the show dates and see what goes on. Its a wonderful show of the power, beauty, concentration, obedience and brains shown by these dancers of the horse world.
With help, this page will become an active page for IHA members and friends to find upcoming dressage activities,
without help.. it will fade into the sunset. Don't let that happen.. UPDATE... nine years have gone by and dressage is still going strong, thank you to all our riders!

Hello Dressage Friends...

Once again, IT'S SHOW TIME!!! The last dressage show of our series is this Sunday, September 11th and as always, we have a full show! I keep switching the TV channels to watch the weather forecast for the day, and to be honest - no one seems to agree. So let's all collectively watch the weather forecast which promises a sunny day - and let's stick with that story. Come on sun...we need you!

We are starting the show at 7:30 am and we are happy to report that there will be a special lunchtime program at noon. The IHA Drill Team has been kind enough to send a few of their members to do a musical tribute/ride to commemorate the ten year anniversary of 9/11. We are very excited to have them, so please plan on coming by at noon to watch this special ride and join us for our BBQ lunch. Don't forget to stick a few extra dollars in your pocket to throw in the donation box so that we can continue to bring you this BBQ lunch. Also, it's a great time to look at the great raffle prizes we have and buy a few raffle tickets and get a some 50/50 tickets.

So, see you on Sunday. Make sure you stop in at the tents - and make sure Angela is keeping her leg up!

Till then...

Yours in dressage!

Post-Show Newsletter Aug-20-2011
Hello Dressage Friends!

HOLY RAIN CLOUDS! That was some show on August 7th, complete with torrential rain, hot humid sun and then back to torrential rain! It was quite a weather-packed day, and our IHA dressage riders were troopers! We came, we rode in the rain, and WE DID NOT COMPLAIN (well, at least not MOST of us!) I guess that's just how it goes, sometimes. Needless to say and despite the weather, the show was a HUGE success. Let's hope for better weather for our September show! So start crossing your fingers and toes again...for good show weather.

Speaking of September, the closing date for our last show of the season on September 11th is approaching fast. The closing date is August 29th and the judge is Dorothy Deemis (R). As usual, we are almost full, but you know how it goes. We will take the first 70 properly completed entries and then put the rest on a waiting list in the order they were received.

I wanted to do a quick shout out to Angela, our beautiful and incredibly dedicated IHA President. She is home recovering from surgery and please everyone join me a huge GET WELL SOON, ANGELA !!! We hope you will be able to join us at the September show!

Last...I wanted to let you all know that our friend, Cindy Canace "S" is in town again doing a clinic at BJ Farms in Jamesport. A few slots to ride are still available for Monday, August 22 and Tuesday, August 23. Price is $110 plus a $25 ring fee to the farm. Auditors will pay $10.00. If you are interested in filling one of these slots, please call Colette at (516) 250-1604.

So, that's it for now! See you all in September!

Yours in dressage...

Joanne :)

Pre-Show Newsletter Aug-5-2011
Hi Dressage Folks...

Once again, IT'S SHOWTIME! The weather report is...iffy...so start crossing your fingers and toes for good weather and if you are privy to any sort of dance or sacrifice that does the trick, please do it! However, short of cloud-to-ground lightening strikes, the show WILL go on! Don't worry, you won't melt!

Ride times are posted on the website, so take a look at www.IslipHorsemensAssociation.com and scroll down to the Dressage Arena and click on August 7th Rider's Report to find your times. Or call me at (516) 885-0687 and I will look for you. Also, we do have a waiting list so if you know you can't ride, please call me and let me know so we can fill in from the waiting list.

Lots of really nice raffles have been donated for this show, so be sure to bring some money and buy some raffle tickets. Also there will be a 50/50 raffle and our now famous BBQ at lunchtime. There is a DONATION BOX for the BBQ. Please remember to put something in the box so we can continue to bring you this really neat BBQ which is sponsored by Happy-Go-Lucky Farm and the IHA Dressage Committee! Even if it's raining, plan on sticking around, getting some good food and chatting with old and new friends! That's what our show is all about!

Everyone did a good job of driving like old ladies while on the show grounds last time, so keep it up. Keep an eye on the ring and please do not drive back to the field while someone is riding their test (we have snipers in the trees this time!) Also, please remember to bring home everything you brought with you, which includes garbage and manure.

Ok everyone! See you on Sunday...and keep crossing!

Till then,

Yours in Dressage,

Joanne :)

Post-Show Newsletter July-21-2011
Hello Everyone...

So, it is hot enough yet? Geez, weren't we just complaining about the snow and how cold it was? Oh well, it is summer, after all!

So our first show was a HUGE success on July 10th! Our judge, Susan Jones-Sinelnek "r" said she enjoyed watching our riders improve from last year. As always, she had great, helpful comments to help all the riders with their tests. Congratulations to all our riders on their great rides and scores!

Next show is coming soon on August 7th and we are fully booked again with a waiting list. Keep the faith, however, because MOST of the riders on the waiting list for the first show were able to ride.

Opening Date for the last show on September 11th was July 18th, so hurry up and send in your entry, if you haven't already because the entries are coming in fast and furious!

That's about it for today! See you all in a few weeks!

Till then...

IT'S SHOW TIME!!!!

Hi Everyone...holy cow, it's here! No more fooling around, no more excuses - it's time to SHOW!

RIDE TIMES ARE UP on the IHA website at www.isliphorsemensassociation.com. Scroll to Dressage Ring and click on that and you will see a link to "July 10 Riders Schedule". Click on this link and look for your name.

The weather guy says it is going to be hot so make sure you and your horse are well hydrated for the show. Don't forget our great BBQ brought to you by Happy-Go-Lucky Farm and the Dressage Committee. Make sure you tuck a few dollars into your tack trunk and don't forget to put a little something in the donation box, so we can continue to bring you this delicious BBQ. Water has been donated by Lorraine Burke at Dark Star Farm. Thanks, as always!

There will be some raffles and 50/50 drawing so again, don't forget to tuck a few dollars away and support your club.

There have been several scratches and we are filling in from the waiting list, just so you know! If you have any questions or concerns, the best thing to do is call my cell at (516) 885-0687. I will try to put out as many fires as I can.

Let's also be kind to our fellow riders. If you are pulling in with your trailer, NOTICE if someone is in the middle of their test and please WAIT until their test is complete to pass them with your truck and trailer. Also, please DRIVE LIKE AN OLD LADY while on the show grounds. It's just safer and keeps the dust down.

I can't think of anything else...so start currying your horses to a shine and buffing your boots! I can't wait to see you all! Find me near the In Gate and say hi to Teddy the Gate Keeper!

See you soon!

Yours in Dressage!

Joanne :)

Dressage Newsletter July-1-2011
Hello Everyone and Happy Summer!

I can't believe it is almost July! Sure feels it! But I wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July!

Ok - here is an update on the IHA dressage shows. As I have told you before, the July 10th show is full and we have a pretty decent
waiting list of people to get in. So, please...if you did get into the show and know you can not ride,
please call either Liz at (631) 878-1704 or me at (516) 885-0687.
We will fill in from the people on the waiting list in the order that their entries have been received.
Ride times for the July show will be available online at www.Isliphorsemensassociation.com the Thursday before the show or you can call Liz.

We are looking for people to scribe at our shows. We still need someone to scribe for a few hours late in the afternoon on July 10th.
Also, let us know if you are interested in learning how to scribe and we will set you up in the booth as a trainee.
This is such a great opportunity to sit with judge and see showing from a totally different perspective!

The August show is also just about full at this time. We will be starting a waiting list for those entries past 70 rides and we will notify
those on the waiting list. Keep in mind that opening date for the last show on September 11th is July 18th. I will remind you, but mark your calendars!

We are so excited about starting our show series and now we need everyone to start crossing their fingers and toes for good weather!

I have some interesting information for you about some clinics that have come to my attention.
I thought I would pass the information on in case you were interested.
Gunter Ostergard is going to be doing a two day clinic at Fran Horn's farm in Medford.
He will be there on Tuesday, July 19 and Wednesday July 20th. There are still a few riding spots available but money is due NOW to hold your spot,
so call Fran Horn at (631)475-1123 if you wish to attend. Also, auditors are welcome and it is free to audit, so why not stop down and watch some lessons!

Another great opportunity is coming up to ride with Pat Puckett on August 11 through 13 at Kilmore.
He is doing a Groundwork and Horsemanship Workshop and there are limited slots available. Please contact Doreen Johnston at (631)537-3975 for information. Deposits to hold your spot are due on July 1st.

And don't forget LIDCTA's show at the beautiful Old Field Farm on July 24th. Visit www.lidcta.com for information.

That's it for now! See you in two weeks!

Yours in dressage....

Joanne :)

Dressage Newsletter June-16-2011
Hi Dressage Peeps!

Did you miss me? Did you wonder where I've been? MEEEE TOOOO! I have so much to tell you, so let's get busy!

First of all, the first dressage show of the season is approaching on July 10th...and we have filled the 70 rides!
There is a waiting list and so we ask, if you know you can not ride on July 10th, let us know as soon as possible so we can fill in from the waiting list.

Next, the opening date for the SECOND dressage horse show was June 13th for the show on August 7th, so start sending in your entries for that one too.
Again, we will be taking the first 70 rides that are completed properly.

Next...you might have noticed that the Year End Rules did not make it into the Prize Book. I can't believe it!
All we did was talk about the new rules...make sure you read the new rules in the Prize Book and lo and behold,
the printer left them out! (does anyone know a good printer???)
So I am going to give them to you here, but also know that you can find them on IHA Website if you look at the IHA NEWSLETTERS
that went out in March and April. Okay, so here we go:

IHA YEAR END AWARDS

1. The Rider must be a member of the Islip Horsemen's Association prior to the first class of the first show in which the scores are to count.

2. To qualify for year end awards, a horse and rider must have four (or more) scores from two different judges within the level during the series.
At least ONE of those scores must be from test 3 (or C). The four highest scores from the at least two different judges (including at least one
test 3 score, whether or not it is one of the highest), will be averaged. The test 3 (or C) rule is excluded in IHA Walk/Trot, Beginner Horse,
Beginner Rider and FEI classes. All horses and riders must obtain a median average score of at least 50% to qualify in all divisions.

3. Once a horse and rider combination has won a year end CHAMPIONSHIP at a level, they WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE for a year end award at that level again.
They can, however, ride in that same level the next season and show competitively at each show, but scores won at the level will not be counted for year end awards.
High score and reserve high score averages at each level will be recognized.

4. Dressage scores earned in the IHA Walk/Trot, Beginner Horse and Beginner Rider classes will count for separate high score awards and are not
combined with any other scores for rider's level.

5. All conflicts will be settled by the binding decision of the IHA Dressage Committee. The committe, under the direction of the Executive
Board of Directors of IHA, reserves the right to revise these requirements as warranted in the event of an alteration to the projective show schedule.
In addition, the committee reserves the right to examine original tests and results at their discretion. Any disputes not covered by the rules and
regulations will be submitted to the committee for further review and their decision shall be final.

Whew! Ok, hope that is clear and if not, call Liz! (only kidding you can always email or call me too!)

Two more items I wanted to tell you about. If you liked the Cindy Canace lecture we did earlier this year, we are happy to let you know that she is teaching at a clinic on July 19th and July 20th at BJ Farms in Jamesport. There are still a few slots available so if you are interested in riding with her, call Colette Baker at (516) 250-1604 or email her at freybak@yahoo.com.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that LIDCTA (Long Island Dressage and Combined Training) is holding a recognized Dressage Show on July 24th at Old Field Farm in Old Field. You can check out their Prize Book online at www.LIDCTA.com.

That's all for now! Actually, that's plenty. Can't wait to see everyone on July 10th. In the meantime, keep practicing! Any questions or concerns, you can email me at Ambar1@optonline.net or call my cell at (516) 885-0687.

Yours in dressage....

Joanne:)

Dressage Newsletter May-16-2011
Hello everyone and HAPPY OPENING DAY!

Yes, today is May 16th and it is the opening date for our first dressage show of the 2011 IHA Dressage Show Series which is on July 10, 2011.

So...where is your prize book? Um...well...our printer took a little siesta and PROMISES it will be in your mailbox yesterday!
So, run and check your mailbox everyday until it arrives! However, do not fret as you can download the prizebook and the entry form at two locations.
It is on LIEQUINE's website under the Prizebook Section (www.liequine.com) and it is also on the IHA Website (www.isliphorsemensassociation.com).
To find the link on the IHA Website click on "The Dressage Ring" and scroll down past all the previous newsletters - oh,
but first read them all again and make note of all our amazing sponsors. Read each name and remember to thank them when you see them!
Ok...so after re-reading all the newsletters, scroll down below the directions to Happy-Go-Lucky Farm and there is a link that says
"Download the IHA Dressage 2011 Prize Book". Click on that link and you are golden!
Be sure to read the entire book - and especially the new rules for 2011 - and of course the sponsor ads once again, for good measure.
Mail your entries to Liz as soon as you can because we are taking the first 70 rides that are filled out correctly with the proper payment.
The closing date is June 27th!

So, IT'S SHOW TIME! See you in July. Any questions, feel free to call me at (516) 885-0687. If you have any problems, call Liz (ha ha, only kidding - you can call me too!)

Meanwhile, practice, practice, practice!

Yours in dressage....

Dressage Newsletter Apr-16-2011

Hi everyone...

Well, The Cindy Canace Lecture Clinic on April 3rd was a huge success! If you missed it, you should be kicking yourself.
Talk about an informative session! Not only was Cindy her most charming and entertaining self, but she brought with her a fabulous DVD \
which showed everyday type of horses doing the new tests...in succession from Intro A, B and C through Fourth Level.
Even better, each test was shot from the judge's perspective at C, but then the third test of each level was re-shot from E...showing a totally different
perspective. So, next time you finish a test and are reading your scores and you say..."what exactly was the judge looking at",
now we understand what the judge can and can not see from C.

Cindy also approached the new tests and rules from three perspectives...that of Judge, Rider and Trainer, which opened up the room to a
very interesting and informative question and answer session. Hours passed in the blink of an eye and I am certain every one who
attended walked away with an entirely new understanding of riding their dressage tests. Great job, Cindy...and good eats too!
The committee baked assorted treats and served coffee and tea while the attendees chatted. What a fun day!

So, our prizebook is almost completed and will be going to the printer in a week. Soon after, they will be hitting your mailboxes.
So get out and start riding your tests! Show season is almost here!

Once again, I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored this year's dressage show series!
We are so grateful, we don't know how to show our appreciatiation.
As soon as the prizebook is completed, we will announce in a newsletter all the sponsors again...so you all know who to thank!

Thank you also to all those who have come forward with offerings for raffles at our shows.
This is another way you can help out by donating raffle prizes for our shows...and then don't forget to tuck a few extra dollars into your tack
trunk on show day so you can buy 50-50 tickets and raffle tickets.

That's all for now. Till next time...

Yours in Dressage,

Joanne :)

Hi everyone!

YAY! We can ride again! Spring is in the air and quite frankly, so is my horse! I keep telling her, if I wanted to ride a pogo stick, I would have bought one! That's okay...just happy to be aboard and yes, Advil is my friend!

Ok, so we need your help. We have the Cindy Canace clinic all ready to go on April 3rd and we have 30 seats reserved already! Can't wait to see everyone. However...we HAD the necessary video equipment for that day, but it is no longer available. Does anyone out there have access to a DVD player with a projector that we can use? If not, does anyone know where we can acquire this equipment to rent? I would appreciate responses ASAP, because this one has me stumped!

We are thrilled with the response to our call for sponsors. I would like to mention another sponsor who has decided to help us yet another year:

Diamante Jewelers

As always, we thank you for your continued support of the IHA Dressage Show Series. We thank all our sponsors everyday...AMEN!

So, don't forget to email me or call me to reserve your seat at the Cindy Canace non-riding lecture/clinic on April 3rd starting at 1:00. This is being held at the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank. Cost is $10 for members (you can sign up at the door) or $15 for non-members. My email address is Ambar1@optonline.net and my cell phone is (516) 885-0687.

Don't forget the IHA Swap Meet is Tuesday, March 22 at the Bohemia Rec Center at 7:30 pm. I will see you all there!

Until next time...
